ALB Family,

Well, the holidays are upon us, and it is time to relax and to celebrate with family and friends. And this year, our ALB family has an extra special reason to celebrate – our 3rd alumni!! Takalani Malivha graduated on December 3rd from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.

TK’s parents flew all the way from South Africa to witness this amazing milestone. They are both teachers in public schools in northeastern South Africa, and certainly understand and appreciate the value of education in transforming lives and communities. And, despite some rainy weather, we all celebrated at an amazing braai (a South African BBQ) hosted by our South African Advisory Board member Natasha Campbell-Cross and her husband Phil.

We are excited for all that the future holds for TK. Her next step will be post-graduate study in Cape Town, thanks to her winning a coveted Mandela-Rhodes Scholarship. A quick glance at her LinkedIn profile will tell you that TK is a natural leader. She’s been involved at UT in ways far beyond the classroom.

We always refer to ourselves as a family at ALB, and for us, this is like having OUR daughter finish college and have a clear path forward. We couldn’t be more proud, and for myself, I’d like to thank all the board members, volunteers and mentors who’ve been involved in making TK’s journey through Austin and UT a success!

She will always be a part of my family and the larger ALB family, and I am confident she will do amazing things with the education that you — our supporters — helped to make possible. Congratulations, Takalani, and Hook ‘Em!
