We are delighted to announce that Ms. Diana Esmat from Qena, Egypt will be enrolling at the University of Texas in the Finance and Economics program.
Diana graduated the African Leadership Academy in 2014. In addition to traveling across the continent to this prestigious school, she had the added challenge of being an Arabic speaker at an English speaking school—imagine taking physics in a language that you have never been educated in! She took it in stride, and graduated with high marks. Some of Diana’s accomplishments are serving as the CEO of the school’s social media production company, and serving in a variety of leadership positions within and outside of the school community. One of Diana’s teachers related that Diana spoke of her concern that Egypt’s educational program did not teach entrepreneurial leadership skills to young people. The next summer, she did something about it—returning to her hometown to start and run an entrepreneurial leadership camp for young people—all in the midst of the Egyptian revolution. Very few of us have put our safety on the line to help others, and we are inspired by her drive and commitment. We can’t wait to see what she does with her UT education and we are so grateful for the expanded partnership with UT that makes this possible!
